Reading: In Reading, we are continuing to read nonfiction books. Through shared reading, we are exploring how to keep track of all the information in longer nonfiction books. We practiced finding the main idea of a paragraph and finding the main idea of an entire book. Students practiced this skill through literacy center activities as well. Math: In Math, we started the week with a fun Skittles activity to review collecting data and graphing data which we learned before springbreak. Later in the week students were introduced to fractions. Students have practiced how to say fractions, how to write them and how to represent them in pictures. Writing: In writing, students have continued to work on their biography writing. Students have practiced taking notes on books and articles they have read about their person and have started writing their introduction. Some students are working on putting their notes into their own words to write the body of their biography. Science/ Social Studies : Our volcanoes have erupted! Students had a "blast" erupting their volcanoes and seeing what happened to their landscapes. After the eruptions students added new clay to all the areas of the land where the lava went. This represented the new land that comes about from the eruption of a volcano. Students have finished painting their projects and reflected on their learning this week. Students are working on making slide shows explaining the process and findings learned from this project.
