Reading: In Reading, all students were DRA tested to see how much their reading has improved since the middle of the year. While students were being pulled out for testing, students worked in reader's theater groups focusing on fairy tales and folktales with a moral. Students had a lot of fun and helped them to not be nervous about the test. Math: In Math, we have started review money concepts and focusing on problem solving with money. Students have particpated in games and activities to help solidify money concepts for them. Writing: In writing, students stared a new and short unit on realistic fiction. This genre is being introduced with comic strips to have students engaged while learning in this new unit. Science/ Social Studies : This week, we started our final science unit on matter. Students observed the properties of many objects around the classroom and recorded their observations like true scientists.

Reading: In Reading, we continued our study of traditional literature. We read two different books during shared reading. We read Red Riding Hood and The Secret Diary of a Wolf. Students learned that many versions of fairy tales have been remade and some even include different points of view. Students will be able to compare and contrast different aspects of these books in the weeks to come. Math: In Math, students were briefly introduced to terms used in measurement. Students leanred both US customary terms and metric system terms. Students will be exposed to this more deeply in the grades to come. Writing: In writing, we devoted the week to preapring for our Wax Museum Event. Students enjoyed being in character for an entire morning as the rest of the school payed a visit. The event was successul and we celebrated our hard work at the end of the week. Science/ Social Studies : This week some students challenged themselves by preparing google slide presentations teaching about their goods and services learning. Reading: In Reading, we have started a new unit on traditional literature. Traditional literature includes fairy tales, folktales, fables and myths that have been passed down from generation to generation. We have read Jack and the Beanstalk as well as Conejito: A folktale From Panama. Students have learned that these stories usually have a moral or a lesson to be learned. Math: In Math, students finished their perimeter and area projects of their names. We did some review problems to get us prepared for our MAP testing this week and played some review games. Writing: In writing, we have started working on our speeches and posters for our Second Grade Wax Museum. Thank you to families for helping the students memorize their speeches this week. We will continue to work on our posters and get fully prepared for the museum next Friday. Students are practicing adding topics and facts to their posters. Science/ Social Studies : This week we have continued our work with our Phoenixville town map. Students learned about goods and services. We talked about the importance of both and how many of the establishments in Phoenixville provide these. Students were also able to choose their "town job" they will be doing in Phoenixville. They had a great understanding of how their job provides goods and/or services to the community. Some students even went above and beyond to create a google slideshow teaching about goods and services to others. |
